Anoraks for Pool Training

An unlined anorak is probably the most useful training tool of your swim bag, a quick drying outfit for resistance swimming to build up strength.

Take your swim training to the next level with an unlined anorak, a game-changing accessory for resistance swimming. This quick-drying garment is designed specifically for building strength and endurance in the water.

When you include an anorak into your swim routine, you'll experience several benefits that can enhance your overall performance:

  1. Increased resistance
The added weight of the anorak provides natural resistance, allowing you to target specific muscle groups and build strength more effectively. You can develop greater strength and endurance in the water.
  2. Improved proprioception
Wearing a weighted garment like an unlined anorak helps develop your body's sense of spatial awareness (proprioception), which is essential for maintaining proper technique and efficiency in the water.
  3. Enhanced core engagement
The added resistance from the anorak requires you to engage your core muscles more effectively, leading to improved overall strength and stability. Enhance your overall swimming performance.

Remember: Get comfortable wearing an unlined anorak during training sessions, as this essential skill will also benefit other watersports activities on land or open-water swims. Always carry one in your swim bag and wear it for all your swim training. Get used to its feel and how to swim in it.

Anorak Advantages for Swimming

  • You can wear it all day everywhere.
  • You can wear it when you go swimming.
  • Better pools allow it as it sheds no fluff to block their filters.
  • It dries very quickly, even while you wear it.
  • Nylon or Pertex anoraks have silky soft fabric.
  • Warmer than a rain cape, catches less wind.
  • The small front pocket takes keys or money.
  • Environment friendly sun protection that doesn't wash off in the water.
  • Rain pants can be worn with it for a better workout.
  • You can fold it into the build-in stuff bag and take it anywhere.

Disadvantages

  • Less ventilation compared to rain cape
  • Fiddly to put on or off compared to rain cape
  • Makes you sweat all over unless breathable

Cagoules for Pools

Cagoules can be used for tough pool training and survival swimming. They dry quickly and don't mess up the pool filters.

Cagoules keep you warm in the pool, especially outdoors. The extra drag increases swimming resistance and gets you fit while you splash around. They are useful swim training clothes to prepare for outdoor adventures.

Swimming in clothes can be a valuable survival skill, especially in situations where you need to stay warm and protected from the elements. Given that cagoules (or similar waterproof garments) dry quickly, don't weigh much, and are designed for wet adventures, they seem like an excellent choice for this type of training.

Pool Rules

When it comes to swimming in a cagoule (or any waterproof garment) at a public pool or aquatic facility please consider this:
  1. Before starting your swim session, confirm with the pool staff that wearing a cagoule is allowed.
  2. Adhere to general pool rules regarding swimming attire, such as no street clothes or loose items in the water.
  3. Be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye out for other swimmers who might be affected by your cagoule.
  4. Swim laps or do exercises in your cagoule to get used to the sensation and buoyancy.
  5. After your swim session, make sure to clean any water or debris from your cagoule before leaving the pool area.
Remember that specific rules may vary depending on the facility you're using. Always prioritize safety and respect for other swimmers!

Swimming in a Cagoule

As an avid watersport enthusiast, you know the importance of being prepared for any situation on the water. But what if you find yourself in a unexpected swimming scenario while still wearing your full adventure gear? That's where regular survival swimming practice comes in, designed to learn how to stay afloat and swim safely while fully clothed, with a cagoule on top.

Adjust your cagoule for comfort. You may be wet for a long time.

Drag Suit for Resistance Swim Training

Looking for a great drag suit to add resistance training to your pool workout? We recommend an unlined anorak with matching pants or bibs. This outfit gets you fit for fun. It is pleasant to swim in and dries quickly as the fabric holds little water. Extra clothing underneath increases your training effort. Proper fit matters for best results and more fun per hour.

Swim cags keep you warm in the pool while you splash around, especially outdoors. Depending on the weather and water temperature you may want to wear fleece clothes underneath. They reduce water flow over your skin, but drain off water when you come out.

Underwater Confidence

Underwater swimming in your cagoule is a skill you can safely practice in a pool. It is great fun and builds immersive confidence for outdoor adventures. Beware of trapped air and water in your clothes.

My Favourite Swimsuit

by Ryan, Bangkok, Thailand

Got this idea from my friend Sean who wears simple rainwear for his pool training. My cagoule and rain pants cause enough drag in the water for a good workout. It feels good on my skin and dries quickly after a swim session. The locker room key goes into the front pocket.

This is my best swimsuit. It feels really good in the water and I enjoy swimming in it for fun and fitness.

When swimming I put the tight hood up, or it fills with water.
